"He who walks in love can neither go astray nor be afraid"

From my friend Peter Nguyen, SJ (yesterday):

“Today is the Feast of St. Stephen, the 1st martyr. The gift of the Christmas holiday is not a flight from the world, but a call to bear witness to Christ and to a deeper responsibility in the world, even at the cost of one’s life. Such a paradoxical "liberation” is elucidated by this contemporary depiction of the stoning of Stephen [painting by Peter Webb, 2013]. His looking at us reveals a testimony that refuses to be forced into conformity.

“From St Fulgentius of Ruspe, the Armour of Love: ‘Love, indeed, is the source of all good things; it is an impregnable defence,- and the way that leads to heaven. He who walks in love can neither go astray nor be afraid: love guides him, protects him, and brings him to his journey’s end.’”
